Kampala Through My Eyes

Kampala Through My Eyes

Colourful. Chaotic. Creative. Delicious. Alive.

Welcome to Kampala

Kampala isn’t always a city you understand at first glance.

Traffic moves in every direction. Boda bodas weave between cars. Music escapes from shops and taxis. Markets overflow with fruit, vegetables, fabrics and people. Modern cafés sit not far from neighbourhood restaurants that have served the same dishes for years.

Give Kampala some time, though, and the city begins to reveal itself.

Let me show you mine.

More Than a City Tour

More Than a City Tour

You can visit Kampala’s monuments and historical attractions, and we certainly can include some of them.

But I also want you to experience what happens between those places.

Walk through markets. Try local food. See how people commute. Visit neighbourhoods. Meet traders and creatives. Stop somewhere because the music sounds good.

Kampala isn’t a museum. It’s a living city.

Eat Kampala

Eat Kampala

One of the easiest ways into Kampala is through food.

Try a rolex prepared beside the road, discover traditional dishes, walk through markets filled with fresh produce or spend time cooking alongside locals.

Food experiences can range from street-food tastings to sit-down restaurants and home cooking.

Come hungry and curious.

Meet Kampala

Meet Kampala

Buildings don’t tell a city’s whole story. People do.

Our local experiences create opportunities to interact with traders, cooks, craftspeople, artists, entrepreneurs and ordinary Kampala residents.

The idea isn’t to observe people as attractions. It is to meet one another respectfully and naturally.

Kampala After Dark

Kampala After Dark

When evening arrives, Kampala finds another gear.

There are rooftop bars, neighbourhood hangouts, restaurants, live bands, DJs, concerts and dance floors across the city.

Tell me what kind of evening you enjoy and we’ll see what Kampala has for us.

Music, Concerts & Events

Music, Concerts & Events

No two weeks in Kampala are exactly alike.

Depending on when you’re visiting, there may be concerts, festivals, exhibitions, comedy, sporting events, markets or live performances happening around the city.

Check the What’s Happening section before your visit or ask me what’s worth experiencing while you’re here.

Why Taj loves it

Why I love Kampala

I grew up in Kampala, and it is the city I know best and love most. It is where I buy my vegetables, meet my friends, dance on weekends and take the long way home.

When I take travellers through it, I am not showing them a destination. I am introducing them to my life, and to the people in it: the woman who sells me tomatoes, the tailor who has made my clothes for years, the friends who know which band is playing tonight.

“Kampala rewards people who are willing to walk and eat with their hands.”

TajTaj’s Kampala Tip
Don’t try to understand Kampala from the window of a car. Walk some of it. Eat something. Talk to someone. Give the city time. That’s when Kampala gets interesting.

Kampala FAQs

How many days should I spend in Kampala?

Two nights is a good minimum, and many of my guests spend three. One full day will give you the highlights.

Is Kampala safe for tourists?

Like any big city, it rewards awareness. With a local guide, you will feel at ease. I will happily share practical tips when you book.

What is the best time to visit?

Any time of year. The driest months (June–August and December–February) are the most comfortable for walking.

How do I get around?

Taxis and ride-hailing apps are easy; boda-bodas are fast but not for everyone. On Go With Taj experiences, transport is arranged for you.
