A Day by the Nile

A Day by the Nile

There is something about Jinja that makes you slow down.

Welcome to Jinja

Let’s go find out.

There is something about Jinja that makes you slow down.

Perhaps it’s the Nile. Perhaps it’s the leafy streets, adventure culture, cafés and riverside spaces. Or perhaps it’s the fact that Jinja feels just far enough from Kampala to feel like you’ve escaped somewhere.

Let’s go find out.

More Than the Source of the Nile

More Than the Source of the Nile

Jinja is famous as a gateway to the Nile, and experiencing the river should absolutely be part of your visit.

But there is another Jinja beyond the usual photographs.

Walk around town, meet residents, discover food, visit creative spaces and spend some time experiencing everyday life.

Meet Jinja

Meet Jinja

Travel becomes more interesting when destinations stop being scenery and start becoming communities.

Where possible, our Jinja experiences connect you with local people, businesses, craftspeople, food and neighbourhoods.

You won’t see everything in one day. You don’t need to.

Taste Jinja

Taste Jinja

Food is always part of my favourite days.

Depending on our route and your interests, we can stop for Ugandan dishes, street food, fresh fish, cafés or one of Jinja’s relaxed riverside meals.

Sometimes lunch becomes one of the best memories of the day.

Experience the Nile

Experience the Nile

You can experience Jinja gently or turn up the adrenaline.

Enjoy the river from a boat, spend time beside it or add one of Jinja’s adventure activities to your trip.

Your day doesn’t have to look like everybody else’s.

Jinja works beautifully as a day trip from Kampala.

The road east also gives us opportunities to make stops along the way and turn the drive itself into part of the experience.

Alternatively, stay overnight and discover Jinja at a much slower pace.

Why Taj loves it

Why I love Jinja

I grew up between Kampala and the Nile, and Jinja has always been my escape. Mornings by the river are some of my favourite hours anywhere in Uganda.

What I love most is how the town mixes adventure with ordinary life: rafters and fishermen, cafés and market stalls, creative spaces and quiet streets. Come for the Nile, stay for the people.

“Come for the Nile, stay for the people.”

TajTaj’s Jinja Tip
Don’t come to Jinja just to take the famous Nile photograph and leave. Stay for lunch. Walk around. Meet someone. Sit beside the river. Jinja is better when you aren’t watching the clock.

A Morning on the Nile

I've guided Jinja more times than I can count, and I still get up early for it. There's a stretch of the river just past the source where the water goes completely…
