Jinja With Locals
The Source of the Nile may bring you to Jinja, but don’t stop there. Meet people, taste local food and see another side of this historic town.
Taste Jinja: street food, fresh river fish, market produce and the cooks behind them.
Food is always part of my favourite days, and Jinja has plenty to taste: roadside snacks, market fruit, fresh fish from the Nile and the kind of lunch that becomes the best memory of the trip.
We walk through the market, sample as we go, and finish with a proper sit-down meal where I explain what is on the table and how it is made.
Market sellers, street-food cooks and the families who run small kitchens in Jinja. Many have been in the same spot for years and are happy to show you how they cook.

This is a tasting experience, so expect a full, varied meal spread across the morning. Vegetarian and other diets are easy with notice.

Skip a big breakfast. By the third stall you will be glad you saved room.

The Nile and the people beside it: time on the river, then into the streets, markets and kitchens of Jinja.
Uganda tastes better when you know where the food comes from. Explore a market, sample street food and learn what people eat at home. Come hungry.
I only take guests to places where food is cooked fresh and hot in front of you. If you have a sensitive stomach, tell me and we will go gently.
Yes. Cook With a Ugandan Family is in Kampala; for Jinja I can arrange a home-cooking lunch on request.
Yes. The Nile & Local Life Experience includes a river-view lunch, or add a boat trip to this one.
You don’t necessarily need a perfectly planned itinerary. Tell me when you’re coming, what you’re curious about and how you like to travel. I’ll help you find an experience that feels right for you. Let’s explore Uganda together.
A short message is all I need.
