Gorilla trekking gets all the attention, but chimp tracking in Kibale is louder, funnier, and far more physical. Chimpanzees move fast, and so do you, ducking through undergrowth trying to keep up.

You'll hear them long before you see them, a chorus of hoots and screams that carries for over a kilometre through the forest. When you do catch up, they're usually mid-argument, mid-groom, or mid-snack, rarely posing.
It's the most chaotic hour I offer, and one of the best.
